OASIIS

Hello or as they say here in Lithuania, labas! In this edition, we share OASIIS activities at GlobalFact2026, which is still going on until June 19.

Let’s dive in!

OASIIS MATTERS
💬 OASIIS strong presence at GlobalFact 2026

It’s the last day of the 13th edition of the GlobalFact, and this year in Vilnius, Lithuania, OASIIS was front and center in a number of sessions.

Josvydas Elinskas / Delfi

Day one highlights:

Choo Ching Yee (OASIIS) was part of the panel on “Engineering Endurance: Making Fact-Checking Financially Sustainable” where she shared about the current state of select fact-checking organisations in Asia and how some organisations have had to pivot or diversify to adapt to the present global polycrisis affecting their survival and funding.

Masato Kajimoto (Annie Lab) was part of the panel on “The Vaccine Echo: Health Truth In A Post-Science Era”, where they discussed how to fact check health claims when there is no longer a consensus on facts, and the experts on the science of these facts.

Jency Jacob (BOOM) and Dulamkhorloo Baatar (NEST) both led networking sessions, one on fraud and scams and the other on public policy.

Upcoming highlights:

Celine Samson (VERA Files) will be sharing how fact-checkers in the Global Majority are tackling deepfakes with detection tools, the challenges they faced and actionable ideas for fortifying verification work. The session will also highlight the power of regional collaborations, particularly how fact checkers from VERA Files (Philippines) and Tempo (Indonesia) work together with the Deepfakes Analysis Unit in India in fact-checking deepfakes.

Networking session for OASIIS and South Asia. We cannot wait to meet everyone in person!

“We do not need to reinvent ourselves. We did not do anything wrong. The liars of this world have spent so much time and energy and money attacking us, precisely because what we are doing is working, and because we represent a formidable challenge to their power and their profit. … We need to keep fighting.”

Nina Jankowicz, co-founder of the American Sunlight Project
